We warmly welcome everyone to the start of Term 2, including our new families and students who have joined us. We also welcome new teachers Mr Joshua Cummins and Mrs Kate Vaney. Mr Cummins has joined us from St Theresa’s College to teach Middle and Senior College Science and Mathematics and also brings with him experience as an environmental scientist. Mrs Vaney will be teaching Middle and Senior College Business and Information Technology in place of Mrs Emma Middleton, who will finish at the end of this week to take up a full time teaching position in Rockhampton. Mrs Vaney has worked in Education Queensland and in the business sector. We thank Mrs Middleton for her commitment and generosity of spirit as she has very capably supported student learning in Information Technology and Business and contributed to strategic thinking in the area of information technology. We also congratulate Mrs Kim Bonello (Miss Kim Stone) on her marriage at the end of last term. We wish Mrs Middleton, Mr Cummins, Mrs Vaney and Mrs Bonello God’s richest blessings as they each begin a new path in their lives.
Over the holiday break, a team of Year 5-7 students participated in the Armidale Rugby Carnival. In the lead up to the carnival, the boys benefitted from the coaching of Mr Darren Hooper and past student Mr Jordan McLeod. They played with great spirit and were very competitive in a high quality competition under the guidance of coaches Mr Scott Crompton, Mr Josh Danzey and Mr Jordan McLeod. Well done to our rugby boys and thank you to our coaches. We look forward to the team building from this strong foundational experience.
The College now provides parents and teachers with access to SchoolTV, which is a digital wellbeing platform aimed at providing parents with ready access to information about a range of issues affecting youth from some of Australia’s leading experts including Dr Michael Carr-Gregg. Families are encouraged to read the following article about SchoolTV and to then explore the range of topics available. We thank the wellbeing team of Mr David Druery, Mr Brendan Delaney and Mrs Kim Bonello for leading this initiative.
Open Day on Sunday 29th April provides the opportunity for current and new families to explore the next phase of their child’s learning. Education, like others areas of life, is changing rapidly. Open Day offers all members of the community, including current families, the opportunity to connect with staff and students, learn about new developments in their areas of interest and also about the wider opportunities available at the College. Families are encouraged to invite friends who may be interested in learning about the College.
May God guide and encourage us as we grow together this term.
Dr Bronwyn Dolling, Principal
