Principal's Log

Typically at the end of Term 1, Year 5-12 students engage in the Pacific As A Peace Place audit. Through this survey, students have the opportunity to provide feedback about their wellbeing and the wellbeing of their peers. It includes the opportunity for students to report anonymously if they or their peers have been harassed or experienced bullying in either the face to face or the online environment. This audit supplements the proactive approaches the College takes to build a safe and positive learning environment. Each year the results of this survey have reflected very positively on the social culture of the College. We encourage all students and families to continue to be proactive in working with the College in standing up against and reporting instances where harassment occurs. Students are completing the audit in the final weeks of this term.

Every second year, parents, staff and students are invited to be part of the Quality Schools Survey conducted by Lutheran Education Australia. All staff and families of the College will be invited to provide feedback via this survey early in Term 2. Students from Years 5-12 will also be invited to complete the survey at the College. Details about the survey are provided later in this newsletter. Where families do not wish their children or themselves to be part of the survey, you are asked to notify the main office via email: PLCP-12@pacluth.qld.edu.au. The survey data will provide important information for the next phase of our strategic planning, which will happen in Term 3 of this year. All families are encouraged to participate where possible.

Congratulations to our Senior Boys SCISSA Soccer team who won their grand final yesterday against Glasshouse Christian College. This was Pacific’s fifth consecutive grand final appearance in the Senior Boys SCISSA Soccer and our third straight premiership. Well done to all players and thank you to Mr Brendan Delaney for coaching the team.

We congratulate Karla Lowe who was selected as a reserve for the Queensland Schoolgirls Water Polo team who will travel to Perth in May to participate in the Australian Schools Sport Championship. She and Cosette Winter were members of the successful Sunshine Coast 13-17 Years Water Polo Girls team that earned a silver medal at the Queensland Schools Water Polo Championships last week.

It was heartening to be at the Friends of Pacific meeting this week and feel the energy of the group who are well underway in the planning of the Aloha OCEANfest 2018. We thank all of the members of the OCEANfest planning group and particularly Mrs Teena Thompson who has taken on the role of OCEANfest Convenor for 2018. 

We look forward to finishing the term strongly and the Cross Country Carnvial next Thursday. We thank God for the cultural diversity within our community and pray for respectful relationships in our homes, places of work and learning, in our country and across the world.
