Science Week has been buzzing at Pacific with Prep – Year 5 students enjoying a range of activities that involved the use of recycled materials as they brought alive the theme of Future Earth, reflecting the 3Rs of reduce, recycle and reuse. Dressed up as scientists, there was a very strong vibe around the campus as Junior College students enjoyed participating in the toy exchange, creating an art installation made from recycled materials, potting seedlings in recycled containers, exploring the sustainability of different habitats, watching a science presentation from Dr Joe and then enjoying food served in cones made from recycled material by the Friends of Pacific and the 4 Ingredients team. We thank Mrs Lu Pollard and Mrs Shelly Hogan, the Friends of Pacific and the 4 Ingredients team for creating such an inspiring and energising experience for our young people.

A large audience enjoyed the performances of our students at the Ensembles’ Concert last Friday night. It is important for our musicians to be able to perform for such a large audience and have their growth and talent celebrated and appreciated. We congratulate all of the students and thank parents for their attendance and ongoing support of our music program. A particular thank you is expressed to Mrs Aleisha Tuaine and Mr Adrian King and their team of music staff for their leadership and inspiration of musical talent within the College. We also appreciate the support of the Church on the Rise for this event.

Over the weekend, our dance students experienced great success at the Pinnancle Dance Challenge with teams awarded 1st and 3rd places or Highly Commended. The students are to be congratulated on their success and hard work over the year and we thank Ms Jane Lillingstone and Ms Ceilidh Peers for their passionate leadership of dance.

We wish our kayakers all the best as they compete in the State Marathon Carnival at Lake Samsonvale on Saturday. We also wish our contingent of students, parents and staff, who will be participating in the Sunshine Coast Running Festival on Sunday, every success.

May we all learn to live in a more sustainable way so that future generations also experience the beauty, richness, wonder and diversity of God’s awesome creation that is our home, planet earth.
