Last week all families received an email inviting them to participate in the College’s annual review. We thank those who have already responded to the review and encourage all parents to take this important opportunity to spend 10-15 minutes to shape the future direction of the College.
We welcome Ms Sue Warren who will be replacing our teacher librarian Ms Nell Keen while she is on maternity leave. Ms Warren has had extensive experience as a teacher librarian with her most recent experience being at Moreton Bay College. Ms Warren is passionate about growing a love of reading and is a well-known book blogger and book reviewer. We thank Ms Keen for the energetic, creative and innovative way she has led our library and wish her every blessing for this next exciting phase of her life.
Recently, there has been considerable media commentary about the NAPLAN test results. Since the detailed data arrived earlier this term, the College has been making use of individual and class level data to plan for improved learning outcomes. Once the individual printed reports are received and school based comparative cohort data is released, these details will be shared with parents.
Over the coming days, each family will receive a copy of our Compass Review mid-year magazine. The magazine is a celebration of our young people, parents and staff making a difference over the past six months. Parents and students are encouraged to read this publication and celebrate being part of the College community. We thank Mrs Stephanie Scarlett for her work in coordinating this project.
Community members are invited to the ‘Hymns We Love’ service this Saturday 6th August at St Mark’s Lutheran Church from 8.00am. This service is a joint celebration between the College and congregation, acknowledging the place that music plays in our spiritual growth. This year, being the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, there is a special focus on this important time in our history.
On Friday 11th August, our Music Department is holding its mid year Ensembles Concert, which involves more than 115 of our musicians. The event provides a wonderful opportunity for our young people to share their talents and for our community to hear what each of our ensembles have been working on this year. The full event details are provided later in the newsletter.
We look forward to a great evening at the Through The Ages Trivia Night on Saturday 2nd September. Individuals, couples and small groups are encouraged to register, even if you do not have a whole table, for a great night of fun. The evening provides a great opportunity to meet new people, have fun and support the young people of the College.
May God’s promise that we all are people who matter, help us to live purposeful lives that lifts others to see the ways in which they matter so much.
