Pacific Lutheran College has been shortlisted to participate in the next round of the Mayor’s Technology Challenge after a successful submission in Phase 1 of the competition. Students are required to develop a new and creative use of technology that solves a community, business or environmental challenge.

The College has entered two teams of students from Years 9 and 10. The teams are busily developing their ideas into real life prototypes and their work will be presented to a panel of judges in May.

Team one (Keaton Dines, Ryan Lancaster and Cailem Leembruggen) is using an Arduino microprocessor to develop a set of musical steps. The steps aim to make a fun alternative to escalators while also encouraging exercise and good health.

Team two (Luke Morris, Nathan Heinz and Jacob Cross-Pitcher) is developing a surf tracker and app. When worn by a surfer, the tracker can give a GPS location to a map. If the surfer is lost or injured, it would allow for a timely and safe rescue.

During the Easter break, several of our students also participated in a photo-shoot with the Mayor!
