Year 2 – 5 Learn to Surf Program

As part of our school surfing program, we are pleased to announce that we will be offering a four week Learn to Surf Program for students in Year 2 – 5 this term.

The program will be run through North Caloundra Surf School in conjunction with Pacific Lutheran College staff.  A range of topics will be covered in this four-week program including: reading ocean conditions, board handling and developing fundamental movements such as balance, agility and coordination.

Details of the program are as follows:

•   Monday mornings before school, 6:00am arrival for a 6:15am start. Sessions will conclude at 7:15am.

•   Program begins on Monday 21st October (Week 4 ) and runs through to Monday 11th November (Week 7).

•   Students will surf at various Caloundra beaches (Kings, Dicky’s, Happy Valley) depending upon conditions.

•   Parents responsible for transport to and from different the venues.

A portion of the cost of the program will be subsidised through the College but will still cost $20 per student which will cover four surfing sessions as well as use of a foam surfboard and wet shirt supplied through North Caloundra Surf School.

Participation in this program is limited with only 24 places available. Spots will be given on a first served basis.

Queensland School Sport State Athletics Championships

Last week six students from Year 5 and 6 qualified to represent the Sunshine Coast at the Queensland Schools State Athletics Championships held in Brisbane. This is the highest number of primary school PLC representatives to qualify for a single championships in the College’s history.

Athletics at Pacific has been increasing in popularity with many students taking advantage of the training sessions offered during Term One and Term Two with our PLC athletics coaches on Monday afternoons. There were a number of outstanding individual and team results recorded by our students last week against the best athletes from all over Queensland. Congratulations to the following students:

  • Emily Groll  – 12 Girls 4 x 100m Relay (Gold Medal) 12 Year Girls 100m Sprint (PB), 12 Years Girls 200m Sprint.
  • Ashlan Hill– 12 Girls Discus (8th place)
  • Scarlett van den Hurk– 12 Girls 1500m (12th place)
  • Sophie Weber– 11 Girls Discus (8th place)
  • Emma  – 11 girls Discus (15th place)
  • Edith Secher - Jorgensen– 10 Girls High Jump (22nd place)

Congratulations to the Sunshine Coast 10 -12yrs athletics team which our students were members of, on taking out the Overall Champion Region for 2024 at these state championships. This is a first time in a number of years that the Sunshine Coast Region has won the Track and Field in this age level.
