Year 6 Canberra Trip

We are excited to share with you the incredible journey our students recently embarked on to the heart of our nation's capital, Canberra. This educational expedition was a unique opportunity for our students to gain a deeper understanding of democracy, witness the inner workings of Parliament House, and pay tribute to the heroes who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom at the Australian War Memorial.

The heart of our nation's democracy beats strongly within the walls of Parliament House, and our students had the privilege of stepping inside this iconic building. As they walked through the halls of power, they observed the democratic process in action. From the House of Representatives to the Senate chambers, our students learned about the complex and dynamic world of Australian politics. They witnessed lively debates and discussions, gaining a firsthand glimpse into the workings of our government. This experience allowed our students to see the importance of active participation in our democratic system, emphasising that they, too, can play a role in shaping the future of our nation.

A visit to the Australian War Memorial was a deeply moving experience for our students. As they explored the memorial's exhibits and learned about the sacrifices made by Australian servicemen and women in conflicts throughout history, our students gained a newfound appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy today. They participated in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony, paying their respects to those who gave their lives for our country. This poignant moment left a lasting impression on our students, reminding them of the importance of peace and the value of remembrance.

The Canberra excursion was not only a memorable experience but also an educational one. Our students were able to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences, making their studies of civics, history, and democracy come alive. They engaged with knowledgeable guides who provided them with valuable insights, fostering a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom.

Overall, the Canberra excursion was a transformative experience for our students, fostering a deeper appreciation for our democracy, the institutions that uphold it, and the sacrifices made to protect it. We are confident that the lessons learned during this trip will stay with our students as they grow into responsible and informed citizens of our great nation.

Our Grade 6 students had an education tour of the national capital In August. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. The Australian Government is contributing funding of $90 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program. The rebate is paid directly to the school.
