7-12 Inter-House Athletics Carnival

Last Wednesday we were blessed with fantastic conditions to run our Yrs 7-12 Interhouse Athletics Carnival at the USC Sport Complex. Thank you to all students and staff who helped make the carnival a fantastic day of participation and House spirit. It was great to see so many of our students involved in track and field events across the day with some great individual performances on show. A special mention goes to our new record holders for their outstanding achievements.

Age Champions, Spirit Trophy and Champion House will be announced at the Middle and Senior College assembly next week. We look forward to celebrating our student athletes during this time.

Competitive Sport News

Monday Night Netball

Congratulations to PLC Sapphire, PLC Opal, PLC Jade and PLC Ruby for qualifying for the Sunshine Coast Secondary Schools’ Netball Semi Finals on Monday Night. Having 4 teams represent our College in the semifinals is a fantastic result. PLC Ruby fought bravely in their match and put up a good performance despite having a significantly depleted side due to illness. PLC Jade’s match against Sienna was a nail biter and while our girls held a lead for most of the game, it was whittled down to bare margins by the end. The team did exceptionally well to maintain their composure and walk away with a 1 goal win. PLC Opal’s truly flexed their netball muscles with a dominant win over ILC and will be walking into the grand final with high confidence.

The pinnacle match of the night was our PLC Sapphire team competing in the Senior A Girls Semi Final. This was an intense physical and mental battle and our girls had to give everything to keep the contest close. While the final quarter didn’t go the way they might have hoped, they should nevertheless be incredibly proud of what they have achieved this season. A big thank you to our coaches Mel Pietrala, Emma Lendrum, Taylor Edwards, Sophia Rule, Emma Frohmuller, Ella Ousley and Zoe Lewis for their incredible commitment to their teams this season. A special mention must go to our Netball Coordinator, Michelle Dufty, for her leadership of the netball program as she has put considerable time and energy into bringing PLC Netball to new heights.

We wish the PLC Jade and the PLC Opal’s all the best for their Grand Finals next week and we would love to see plenty of support out on the courts for our teams.

Vicki Wilson Netball

We were pleased to have 5 teams represent PLC at the annual Vicki Wilson Netball Tournament held at the Maroochydore Multi-Sport Complex. PLC Sapphire Team competed well in pool matches and went down to Matthew Flinders by 4 points. PLC Emerald was equal first in their pool matches and qualified for the semi-finals. They, unfortunately, went down in their semi-final match after losing players through injuries. PLC Pearl and Jade competed well in their development divisions, showing improvement in their team cohesion across the day. PLC Boys played well in their first campaign and will have gained valuable experience from their efforts throughout the day.

Final Team Standings:

PLC Sapphire 2nd

PLC Pearl 5th

PLC Emerald: Equal 1st

PLC Jade 4th

PLC Boys 6th

Senior Soccer

This week saw a wrap up for our Senior Soccer teams’ SCISSA season. Our Senior Boys played their Semi Final at home against Suncoast and, unfortunately, due to missing players, could not play to their normal standard. This will be disappointing for the players, but they should be proud of their efforts throughout the season. The Senior Girls Team 2 played their Semi Final at St Andrews and took the game all the way to a penalty shootout. Whilst they didn’t close out the game in the shootout, they played extremely well throughout the season and showed fantastic commitment each and every week to turn up for each other. Thank you to coaches Leah Croke, Jack Best and Steve Rattey for their work throughout the season with our senior teams.

Junior and Intermediate Volleyball

It was a strong finish for our Junior and Intermediate Volleyball teams in the SCISSA competition. Well done to our Junior Girls and Intermediate Girls Team 1 for strong wins at home to finish their season. The teams have been working hard to improve their skills, so it was good to see them achieve positive results to finish. Our Intermediate Boys played a tough away game and while they were a dominant force in the first set, they couldn’t match the intensity of their opposition for the rest of the match. The Junior Boys had the week off after a double header last week and will be hoping that results go their way for a finals berth next week. Thank you to Liam Jacka, Tiffany Harman, Georgina Snelling and Rob Belchamber for giving their time and energy to support their teams in after-school sport each week.
