It should be no surprise that young children will often, if not always, model adult behaviours, whether this be through their actions, words, body language, or even appearance. Whilst this revelation is not ground-breaking, it is important to consider that, in reality, a school has an abundance of role models, in the form of students. Indeed, every student, has the capacity to model the role that they currently occupy. This may be the Year 2 student modelling for the Year 1 student how to engage appropriately with play equipment. Similarly, it may be the Year 5 student demonstrating responsibility for the Junior College students, as they support the younger students coming into school each morning from the car park. At the other end of the spectrum, we have Year 12 students, young adults in fact, who have an incredibly important role in modelling all manner of behaviours. Pleasingly, the vast majority of our student population understand, appreciate, and relish in the opportunity to model the College values of Care, Dignity, and Respect.

Year 9 Peer Support Leaders

Last week, it was delightful to be involved in the first day of training for our future Peer Support Leaders. Our current Year 9 cohort experienced a day of varying activities that revolved around relationship building, leadership development, understanding who they are as individuals, and of course plenty of fun along the way. I thank all the staff involved on the day and look forward to the second day of training in the not too distant future. The intentional manner of growing these, soon to be Year 10 students, into peer support leaders, is so they too are consciously aware of the modelling that is required when the Year 6 students move to Year 7 and join their PCGs in 2022.

Buran House Update

I would like to thank you all for your patience as we work through the process of curating the new Pastoral Care Groups in Buran House, at the same time as we populate the other Houses based on student and staff movement. I am sure you can appreciate the careful thought which has gone into this endeavour. We look forward to the confirmation of groups in the coming weeks.
