Over the weekend, the 2019 season concluded with the grand finals and our Club presentation night. Two of our teams, the PLC Fillies and the PLC Walers, had finals appearances.

The PLC Fillies took on the Meridan Scorpions in the Division 7 grand final. It was a hard-fought game for the first half, with Meridan breaking away in the third quarter to win 29 to 19. The season set a high standard for the Fillies, who in the past have struggled with grading and found it difficult to win a game. To go through the whole season of 20 games and only lose four of them is a fantastic effort. Well done to their coach, Rhianna Higginson, for taking the girls to the next level.

The second team to take the court was our PLC Walers. The Walers are our umpiring team, with Tayla Gorham officiating in the Division 1 grand final. Division 1 is the ‘senior’ grade within the Association and naturally attracts the most senior umpires to officiate the grand final. Well done to Tayla on achieving another first for PLC Netball!

To round out the season, the Club presentation night was held at Laserzone on Sunday. It was a great night and there were a number of achievements recognised:

  • Twelve girls received 5 Year Service Jackets in recognition of their commitment to the Club;
  • April Romagnoli received the Golden Whistle award as the Club’s most valuable umpire in recognition of achieving her ‘National C’ Umpiring Qualification and the development she has shown throughout the year;
  • Kate Cameron was awarded the Spirit Award for her attitude, dedication and commitment to the Club; and
  • Mel Ousley received the ‘Clubman of the Year’ for her efforts as Team Manager over a number of seasons.

Finally, I would like to thank all of the coaches, team managers, committee members and parents who have supported us throughout the season and made it a great success!

Mr Trevor Colton, PLC Netball Club President
