State Honours Ensemble Program

Last weekend, five Pacific music students (Thomas Wegener, Jada Baker, Elena Butler, Danica Cockburn and Ayrisa Jones) attended the State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) in Bundaberg. The program was run in conjunction with Griffith University. Students spent three days working with top conductors from around the country and had the opportunity to play with many talented musicians from around the state. It was a huge honour for these musicians to be selected to participate in this program. They also represented Pacific in the final showcase concert on Sunday afternoon. Well done!

We wish our 150+ music students well as they prepare to enter the upcoming Sunshine Coast Junior Eisteddfod. The Eisteddfod is held across four venues over 25 days throughout July and August. More than 6000 students (up to the age of 18) compete in over 150 different items ranging from solos, duets, trios, quartets, small ensembles and large ensembles.

Pacific will be represented by 17 ensembles and numerous duets, trios, quartets and solos. Our students have been practising hard to build their confidence so they are able to perform at their best. Thank you to our excellent team of music tutors who have been busy preparing and guiding the students, developing their passion for music.

Good luck also to our Pacific music students who will be performing with their community orchestras, bands and choirs.

School of Rock

Last Wednesday evening, a group of 12 students from the senior Music classes went on an excursion to revel in the delights of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash hit musical ‘School of Rock’ at the Lyric Theatre in Brisbane. The musical is a direct stage adaptation of the movie starring Jack Black. The students were entertained by a wonderful cast of talented child and adult musician and actors and a fabulous time was had by all.
