There is an increasing understanding of the world as a small global village where the choices made by people in one country can have significant impact on the lives of people around the world. Many universities embed international experience as an important part of learning for tertiary students. Young people are being encouraged to think globally in terms of learning and work choices. A key element of the OECD Learning Framework 2030 was the importance of young people developing values and capacities to be discerning in terms of the global consequences of choices made at a local and national level.

A key component of this is how we think about resources and protecting the environment. Understanding that resources are finite and that we need to take personal responsibility to protect the environment, through being mindful of how we use and dispose of materials, is an important component of growing a socially just mindset. Being mindful and respectful in our use of resources and doing what we can to ensure a good life for our global neighbours and the planet are also part of God’s desire for us. We can all make the choice to walk more gently on the earth.
